White Stuff Ice Cream Truck Tour heads for Exeter

To celebrate 40 years, White Stuff is hitting the road with a summer ice cream truck tour, which includes a day in Exeter.

Throughout this month they’ll be serving up free scoops along the south coast, bringing their signature style and community spirit to some of the UK’s favourite seaside destinations. Visitors will also be able to ‘Spin To Win’, with the chance to win some of the brand’s 40th Anniversary product.

The tour kicks off in St Ives, where White Stuff is teaming up with St Ives Surf School to offer locals free surf lessons and gear hire on Saturday 19 July....

A leading physicist from the University of Exeter has received a national award for pioneering research contributions in the field of quantum physics.

Dr Janet Anders received the Bates Prize, a top early career researcher award from the Institute of Physics (IOP) for her outstanding research into quantum information theory and its application to quantum thermodynamics.

Meet cats in need of homes at charity event

Cat fans in Exeter will have a chance to meet some fantastic felines in need of new homes at a special cat rehoming event being held by Blue Cross pet charity on Saturday 17th October at the Isca Centre in Whipton, from noon until 3pm. Visitors to the Blue Cross event will be able to find out more about the charity’s pet rehoming centres and pet fostering schemes in Devon. Anyone who is on the lookout for a new pet will also be able to find out about the cats currently being cared for by the charity. Starcross and Cockwood tidal defence scheme public exhibition

The Environment Agency is holding a public exhibition on Friday 16 October 2015 to provide people with more information about the Starcross and Cockwood tidal defence scheme.

The Environment Agency is currently investigating options to manage the risk of tidal flooding at the coastal villages of Starcross and Cockwood on the Exe Estuary. The scheme is estimated to reduce flood risk to over 600 properties. It was accelerated as part of the March 2015 Budget announcement regarding England’s 6-year flood defence programme.

Green MEP's 100% renewable claim

Molly Scott Cato, Green MEP for the South west will tell a public meeting this Friday that the city could be powered by 100% renewable energy, without the need for any fossil fuels or nuclear. A report she commissioned earlier this year concluded that the region could be totally self-sufficient in energy and that a renewable energy revolution could create 122, 000 new quality jobs across the region and add over £4bn a year to the South West economy.

Police appeal following burglary in Exmouth

Police investigating a burglary at a property in Exmouth last week are appealing for information.

A property on Valley Way was broken into sometime between 5.50pm and 10.15pm on Friday 9 October.

Jewellery, which is of great sentimental value to the victim, was stolen during the burglary.

More than 70 community projects across the South West will be helping local people improve their communities after the Big Lottery Fund awarded a total of £1,987,817 to the region.

Exeter care home resident celebrates 103rd birthday

Helena Alice Walker, resident at RMBI care home, Cadogan Court in Exeter, celebrated her 103rd birthday on Thursday 1 October.

Helena enjoyed a lovely morning sharing her birthday cake with residents, family and friends at the Home and playing her favourite game, Bingo, at which she also won a prize.

Helena has been a resident at Cadogan Court for three years. She was born in 1912 near Bow Bells in East London and worked as an upholsterer at Queen Anne’s Mansions, near Buckingham Palace.
