New report reveals UK's happiest places to be a dog

Exeter comes 9th in Dogs Trust's Happy Place Index, but we all have room for improvement

For dogs, a happy place can be somewhere physical, like cuddling up next to their owner on the sofa, dozing by the fire or rolling around in a muddy puddle. But it can also be a feeling, like the excitement of a new toy, the comfort of being with their favourite humans, or the relief of just being somewhere safe.

To examine the various factors that contribute to a dog's satisfaction, an academic has developed a new formula – the Canine Happiness Score (CHS).

Nags Head Bridge to close for safety works

The Nags Head Bridge near Cullompton will be closed from 7-18 March for essential safety works.

‘Road restraint’ improvement works will be carried out on the B3181 bridge and follows concerns that some drivers have not been negotiating the bend on the east side of the bridge safely.

The work will include removing damaged timber fencing and installing ‘trief’ kerbs in front of an existing retaining wall. This will minimise the risk of vehicles leaving the carriageway.

Shaun Sawyer will remain as chief constable of Devon and Cornwall Police up to 2021. We are urgently calling out for volunteers from Exeter who love to watch darts, to help us on Thursday March 3 at the 2016 Betway Premier League fixture, held at the Westpoint Arena.

Devon county councillors' allowances frozen

Allowances for county councillors in Devon are to be frozen for the seventh year running.

The Conservative administration froze basic allowances when they took control of County Hall in 2009.

And council leader John Hart and his deputy, John Clatworthy, reverted to the rate that the leader and deputy leader were being paid in 2005.

The council has continued the freeze since then.

New blood test will help diagnose heart conditions

A new genetic test to improve diagnosis in people with inherited heart conditions, which affect over half a million people in the UK, has been developed by British Heart Foundation-funded researchers.

The new test is a result of international collaborative efforts led by Professor Stuart Cook between researchers in Singapore, Imperial College London and at the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre.

Have your say on Exeter's new bus station

People are being invited to have their say on plans for a new bus station in Exeter at an open forum next month.

Exeter City Council will be holding the event at the Corn Exchange in Market Street, Exeter on Thursday (3 March) between 8am and 5.30pm.
