Work to start on Heavitree Road bus improvements

Improvement work to enhance bus services on Heavitree Road in Exeter will get underway next month (February).

The scheme, which will start on Monday 2 February, involves the construction of a new traffic island and installation of a new set of traffic signals at the end of the outbound (eastbound) bus lane between Grendon Road and Polsloe Road/Barrack Road.

These new signals will give buses priority at the Polsloe Road / Barrack Road junction, making it easier for buses to progress towards Heavitree Fore Street or move from the bus lane into the right turn lane for...

Father of two, Nick Webb, from Paignton, suffered a serious injury back in 2014, and lost the use of his arm.

He underwent reconstructive surgery, and with an extensive recovery period he had to give up on his successful landscaping career.

Determined not to be beaten, Nick used this career break to pursue his lifelong interest in the arts, and Salokin Photo Art was born.

Nick remembers being in utter shock and panic, and was left wondering how he was going to support his young family.

He says "you just have to deal with what life throws at you, and I...

William Morris to stand again in Police and Crime elections

I take this opportunity to let the readers of the Exeter Daily know that I shall be standing as candidate for the post of Police and Crime Commissioner in the May 5th elections.

I will stand again as an independent candidate because I believe this is not an appropriate post to be held by someone with an allegiance to a political party. I have a number of key policies which will be announced and explained in a series of videos the first of which are already online. My policies are outlined here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S3-u5Gi0Dk

As regards Exeter itself, one key...

Deaf Academy brings families closer together

Exeter Deaf Academy is hosting a free family sign language weekend on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 April.

Imagine feeling the enormous sense of isolation when you can’t find a way to communicate with anyone, not even your own family. Imagine feeling cut off because you can’t understand what they say or make yourself heard. Sadly, for many Deaf children this is an everyday reality.

90% of Deaf children are born to hearing parents. Parents may start to learn sign language, but it can take years and the standard British Sign Language (BSL) courses are not wholly based on everyday...
