A marine pollution expert from the University of Exeter has given a high level presentation at the United Nations headquarters, in New York.

Professor Tamara Galloway, an eco-toxicologist in the College of Life and Environmental Sciences, delivered the presentation at the recent Open-ended Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea (ICP-17) session on Marine Debris, Plastics and Microplastics.

Devon Local Nature Partnership is aiming to Get Devon Buzzing this month (July) with a month of 'pollinator' themed events across the county.

The first ever Devon Pollinators' Month aims to raise awareness of our bees, butterflies and other insects, many of which are in serious decline.

Events have been organized by a wide range of partners including local farmers, East Devon District Council, Devon Wildlife Trust, National Trust, FWAG SW, Paignton Zoo, Dartmoor Meadows Project and Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust.

Camera which captured Battle of the Somme on display

A camera which is thought to have shot the first war film will be on display at a special exhibition to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.

Experts believe it is likely that the Moy-Bastie camera was used to shoot the famous film The Battle of the Somme, which was seen by an estimated 20 million people.

The film and camera will both be on show to mark 100 years since the start of the World War One battle.

Firefighters become a pet’s best friend

Pets across Devon and Somerset have a better chance of surviving household fires – thanks to new oxygen masks for animals being carried on selected fire engines.

The funding for the sets of specially-designed masks has been provided by Pets at Home through its instore reward scheme.

Hate crime has no place in Exeter, Exeter City Council said today, following reports of migrant communities being abused in the city.

Hate crime has risen by 57% across the country since the result of the EU Referendum, according to the National Police Chiefs’ Council.

Cllr Paul Bull, Lead Councillor for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said there had already been reports that migrant communities were being verbal abused and physically attacked in Exeter since last Thursday.

Remembering every man who fell on the first day of the Battle of the Somme

More than 394 soldiers from The Devonshire Regiment will be individually remembered in a unique and historic centenary art project commemorating the fallen of the Battle of the Somme.

The 19240 Shrouds of the Somme commemorates all 19,240 allied soldiers who fell on the first day of the battle which began on July 1st 1916.
