Work to start on Heavitree Road bus improvements

Improvement work to enhance bus services on Heavitree Road in Exeter will get underway next month (February).

The scheme, which will start on Monday 2 February, involves the construction of a new traffic island and installation of a new set of traffic signals at the end of the outbound (eastbound) bus lane between Grendon Road and Polsloe Road/Barrack Road.

These new signals will give buses priority at the Polsloe Road / Barrack Road junction, making it easier for buses to progress towards Heavitree Fore Street or move from the bus lane into the right turn lane for...

£120k secured for new multi-wheeled sports facility

Young people in Teignbridge are being encouraged to submit designs for a new multi-purpose outdoor sports facility worth more than £120,000.

Teignbridge District Council and Newton Abbot Town Council have teamed up with local organisations to replace the existing Buckland Skatepark with the new facility.

The announcement has been welcomed by the community of Buckland and Milber as well as its surrounding areas.

Exeter resident and blood cancer patient Jamie Lynde (pictured in the middle) is organising the third annual Exeter Walk for blood cancer charity Bloodwise.

The fundraising walk, which starts at the Exeter Quay and follows the Exe Estuary Trail, will take place on Saturday 24th September this year. The family friendly event, which offers a choice of 8.6 or 12 mile routes, is open to all and members of the public are invited to sign up.

On Sunday 18 September Finch Foundry in the village of Sticklepath, Dartmoor, will be hosting an exhibition of rural skills both new and old. There will be a range of craftspeople in the Foundry gardens displaying their skills and selling their products, including sugar crafting, loom weaving, rag rugging, wine production, a wood turner, a wool fleece manufacturer, and a blacksmith. There will also be a village duck race, continuing a tradition first started in Sticklepath over 30 years ago. Fundraising event for outdoor classroom

A Fundraising Event has been planned for Exeter Forest School Kindergarten, to raise funds for a new outdoor classroom, to enable young children to learn and experience the outdoors.

The event will bring together families across Exeter at Riverside Leisure Centre on Saturday 3rd September from 3pm until 7pm to enjoy a range of games and activities for all ages, including a giant inflatable assault course and forest school activities. Firefighters rescue woman trapped under car

Firefighters have rescued a woman who became trapped under a car in Exmouth.

Crews were called to Brixington Lane in the town at 6.45pm yesterday.

Fire engines from Exmouth, along with a heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor were sent to an incident where a lady was trapped underneath a car by her shoulder and arm.

The crews used airbags, chocks and a tirfor winch to lift the vehicle off the casualty who was then taken to Derriford Hospital.

At just six months old, Rose Elhiti was diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer after her parents spotted a white glow in her eye and took her to a GP.

The two-year-old, from Exeter, eventually underwent chemotherapy treatment and still has regular hospital check-ups but is in remission.

A team of search officers are continuing their efforts to trace missing woman Gergana Prodanova.

Following her disappearance and the subsequent launch of a murder investigation an extensive operation utilising specialist police teams has been carried out in Exeter.

Around 30 officers are currently conducting house-to-house enquiries and police are particularly keen for landlords and tenants in the Mount Pleasant area of the city to search their gardens, outbuildings and allotments as the hunt for Gergana intensifies.

Summer drink and drug driving campaign results suggest that if you offend in Devon and Cornwall you’re twice as likely to get caught compared to the national average.

Figures from the recent summer drink and drug driving campaign show that in Devon and Cornwall the percentage of drivers tested that were positive, failed or refused a reading is just over twice the national average in almost all measures, with an average of around 21% compared to 10% nationally.

East Devon beach huts and sites all let

East Devon District Council has reported that all of its 237 beach huts, 20 beach chalets and 241 beach hut sites at Beer, Seaton West, Seaton East, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth and are now fully let for the 2016/2017 season.

Woman dies in Okehampton collision

Officers from the serious collision investigation team are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision on the A3079 near Thorndon Cross, Okehampton.

The incident happened at 8.35am on Saturday 13th August 2016 and involved a grey Ford Focus and a red Peugeot 206.

A 25 year old local woman who was the front seat passenger in the Ford suffered serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene
