Exeter School was a wonderful venue for the 2016/17   Launch of Young Enterprise, Company Programme.  A packed programme with energetic and inspirational presenters was a great introduction for all the teams to the Young Enterprise - Company Programme.

This programme is for student’s pupils aged 15-19 years old, giving them the opportunity to run a real business and start something inspirational.  Over the course of an academic year, students can:

• Raise finance by selling shares
• Open and use their own bank account
• Carry out market research
• Work together to create their business plan
• Develop and market a product or service
• Trade with the general public
• Manager company finance
• Participate in Young Enterprise Trade Fairs (local, regional, national and international)

In the Company Programme, students develop enterprise and financial capability as well as business and economic understanding.

Ed Clarke, last year’s Managing Director of the team from Exeter School ‘Foodprint’ contributed with an excellent overview of his team’s journey through the programme.  Andrew Earle of HSBC gave a very helpful introduction to the teams on the different steps to opening their company bank accounts with HSBC.

Alison Dale, Learning and Development Manager at Chartered Accountants, Bishop Fleming gave an interactive and enthusiastic presentation on choosing roles for the team, considering the skills required and invited the audience to share their dream jobs, this produced some lively debate from the audience. Ian McGregor, Chair of YE Board – Devon shared some great top tips for planning and project management.

The programme concluded with Jonathan Melhuish-Sprague of Koncept, a venture technology company based at Exeter Science Park inspired the audience with an account of his fascinating journey as an entrepreneur.

The audience was made up of participating teams, teachers, Young Enterprise volunteers (Board Members and Business Advisers) and other key supporters of Young Enterprise in he area.

The teams participating in the Company Programme this year are from Ilfracombe Academy, Tiverton High, Exeter School, St James School Exeter, Trinity School, Exeter College, and Maynards.

Marian Weston, Young Enterprise Manager for Exeter said ‘It was great to have so many enthusiastic, aspiring entrepreneurs in the audience.  There was a real buzz of energy and excitement in the room, and we are looking forward to a lively and productive year ahead for all our participating teams’.

The next  big  event on the Company Programme calendar that we are looking forward  to is our Christmas Trade Show on Saturday, 10th December  in Princesshay, Exeter,  and we would like to thank  Wayne Pearce, Princesshay Centre Director  and all his team  at Princesshay for their great l support and hospitality.
