New High Sheriff of Devon pledges to boost restorative justice

Devon’s new High Sheriff, entrepreneur Mark Ansell, has pledged to put Restorative Justice centre stage during his year in office, championing a system proven to support victims of crime and rehabilitate offenders.

Mark is the latest of three generations of his family to serve as High Sheriff of Devon, proudly following in the footsteps of both his father and grandfather. Libraries Unlimited marks World Mental Health Day

Since April this year, more than 6,500 people have borrowed mental health and wellbeing titles from libraries across Devon, including 2,500 young people, Libraries Unlimited has revealed. New watchdog for Exe Estuary

Marine businesses, fishermen and sailors are to get a new voice about what happens on the Exe Estuary.

Commercial fishermen, ferry operators, mooring authority representatives, pleasure boaters and boat yard owners have come together to form a new watchdog, the Exeter Port Users Group.

A group of deaf actors in Exeter will be given the chance to perform Shakespeare in a fresh way, thanks to a donation from the region’s leading housebuilder.

PaddleBoat Theatre Company has formed a relationship with the Royal Academy for Deaf Education in Exeter. Exeter College has won the prestigious City & Guilds ‘UK Centre of the Year’ award – celebrating the outstanding opportunities delivered by the college to technical and vocational learners.

Man dies in Exeter property fire

Police were called at 4.57pm on Sunday the 9th of October following reports of a fire at and address in Turnworth Court, Coombe Street, Exeter.

Devon Fire and Rescue were in attendance.

The body of a 47-year-old man was discovered within the address. The man’s next of kin has been informed but formal identification has yet to have taken place.

Fire Investigation team and the police remain at the address – police are currently treating the death as unexplained and are appealing for witnesses.
