A special service of thanksgiving will be held this Saturday in Exeter Cathedral, two weeks on from the devastating fire which ripped through historic properties on the Cathedral green and destroyed the historic Royal Clarence hotel. Members of all emergency services have been invited to the service and will be thanked for their heroic efforts to stop the fire from spreading. The last of the cordons have been removed today (Tuesday) from Exeter High Street following the major fire at at the Royal Clarence Hotel.

A number of businesses remain closed due to damage caused by the fire.

A new carving of a poppy has been completed at Exeter Cathedral in time for Remembrance Sunday. The decorated “corbel” stone will eventually be added high up on the eastern end of the Cathedral as part of a major programme of works in that area of the building that was funded by the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund. It was carved from a block of Salcombe stone by Gary Morley who has been a member of the Cathedral’s team of masons for over 25 years.
