Police investigate Newton Abbot burglary

Police are investigating a burglary which took place at a property on Lonsdale Road, Newton Abbot on Sunday 28th August 2016 at around 2am.

The offender or offenders appear to have been disturbed while inside the dwelling. The items stolen were a black handbag with dark blue Aspinal wallet and a purse inside.

Detective Constable Rich Jones said: “We wish to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anyone acting suspiciously in the area at this time.

Sidmouth gears up for Tour of Britain

East Devon District Council moves into top gear next week as meticulous plans are put in place for the Sidmouth start of the premier Tour of Britain cycle race on Friday 9 September.

Three arrested after firearm incident

Three people are in police custody following a firearm incident in Devon.

The Exeter-based police helicopter was involved in a search following the incident.

Police were called at around 3.30pm yesterday (Monday 29th August) with reports of gunfire being heard and a vehicle being rammed in the Fore Street area of Torquay.

Police Armed Response Units were called to the scene and one man was discovered to have sustained a number of pellet wounds believed to have been from an air rifle, and was subsequently take to hospital.

RSPCA renews call for badger cull to be halted

As the start date for the controversial badger cull is officially confirmed the RSPCA has renewed calls for the scheme to be halted as scientific evidence shows it will not help to stop the spread of bovine TB.

Three counties, Somerset, west Gloucestershire and north Dorset were subject to culls in 2015 and it has been officially announced today (Monday 30 August) Defra will be licensing seven new areas.

Compass House crèche in St Leonard’s in Exeter, which offers on-site child care for those attending the Depression and Anxiety Service sessions, is in renewed danger of being closed.

Climbing event hits new peak

Elite climbers from across the globe descended – or should that be ascended – on Exeter this weekend.

They were taking part in the Quay Climbing Centre’s Deep Water Solo event, which sees a seven-metre wall built into the canal basin. Competitors climb without ropes and drop in to the canal when they lose their grip.

Police are appealing for witnesses following a two car collision that left two people in hospital.

At around 5.25pm on Friday 26th August, Police were informed of a head-on collision between a red Skoda Fabia and a blue Ford Mondeo. This took place just past the Bolham roundabout, prior to the A361 crossing the Mill Leat and the River Exe the carriageway.

The Skoda was heading from the direction of Barnstaple towards Tiverton; the Mondeo was heading in the opposite direction.

The Exeter-based police helicopter was scrambled after an incident involving a firearm in Devon.

Officers set up a cordon and began a search in the Starpitten Grove of Torquay at 11pm yesterday (Monday).

Insp Mark Waldron, force incident manager and tactical firearms commander, told the Torquay Herald Express: "There is an ongoing incident.
