Nationwide and Dementia UK’s free face-to-face clinics are returning to Nationwide’s Torquay, Plymouth and Exmouth branches this February, offering specialist support in a safe, comfortable and private space for people to discuss any aspect of dementia.

Crackdown on drivers using mobile phones

Devon and Cornwall Police and the Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner are working with police forces across the South West to crack down on people using their mobile phones while driving.

It comes as figures from the RAC show that the number of motorists who illegally use mobile phones while at the wheel is rising.

1,714 motorists were surveyed and 31% of said they used a handheld phone behind the wheel. That compares with 8% in 2014.

Primary academy trust to run ‘virtual’ online open days

An East Devon primary school trust is holding ‘virtual’ online open days over the next few weeks, using technology to help parents decide on the right school for their children. The events will take place on 15 and 23 November and 6 December, and there will also be conventional open events on 22 and 30 November.

Prize draw prompts 1,800 pledges to 'love their clothes'

A Crediton curate has won Recycle Devon prize draw by pledging to reduce the amount of unwanted clothing she throws away.

The Reverend Helen Drever of Crediton Parish Church won a £45 laundry ‘bucket’ made from ‘upcycled’ sailcloth donated by Sails and Canvas in Topsham.

The draw was part of the Love Your Clothes campaign which aimed to change the way Devon consumers buy, use and dispose of their clothing.

A new Devon nature reserve on a former spoil heap is in the running to receive funding in a national competition. But the funding from the Aviva Community Fund is awarded to projects that win the most public votes. So the charity Devon Wildlife Trust is encouraging people to vote to help the wildlife at its new Teigngrace Meadow nature reserve. The Prince of Wales has praised the work of University of Exeter experts to help support small family farms.
