New children's library opens in Exeter

After months of building work, the new children’s library in Exeter is now open to the public. The Clore Children's Library features a brand-new sensory area, a floating mezzanine and activities for older children. Designed to be welcoming and accessible to all children and families, and championing interests, passions and their imaginations.

Plans for major redevelopment of Exeter Bus Station move forward

A leading city councillor has welcomed progress on the multi-million pound redevelopment of Exeter Bus Station.

And the authority has pledged that everything will be done to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum while the work is being carried out.

It comes as members of the Exeter Highways and Traffic Orders Committee (HATOC) backed highways works needed to create a temporary bus station in the city centre at a meeting on Monday.

The University of Exeter’s a cappella group Semi-Toned has won a tense sing-off against rival student band Sweet Nothings, and were chosen to represent the South West in Gareth Malone’s TV search for the nation’s most talented and entertaining amateur choir.

All-male group Semi-Toned vocally squared up to the all-female group Sweet Nothings, with both singing electrically charged versions of Britney Spears’ …Baby One More Time for Gareth to judge as part of his series The Choir: Gareth’s Best in Britain. Racing Clydesdales return to Exeter Racecourse

Dartmoor’s racing Clydesdales are back at Exeter Racecourse on November 20, when the track celebrate Devon Day. Professional jockeys will on board the gentle giants urging them down the home straight in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance.

The race, which comes under starters’ orders at 12.20pm, is an annual highlight on Exeter’s calendar, with the gentle magnificence of these huge horses drawing cheers of admiration from the crowd.

People across the South West are being urged to back a hard-hitting initiative to save Stop Smoking Services from closure, as new figures released today (Wednesday) reveal dangerous funding cuts. Planning Inspectorate publish report on Devon Minerals Plan

Devon County Council’s new Minerals Plan is set to be adopted following support from the Government’s Planning Inspectorate.

The report, published following a public inquiry in May, concludes that the Plan meets legal requirements and provides an appropriate basis for the future quarrying plans in the county for the next 17 years.

The inquiry heard from a wide range of objectors and included discussions on the new mineral extraction areas at Drakelands Mine and near Ottery St Mary and Uffculme, together with wider protection for mineral resources.

Missing teenager Arthur Heeler-Frood found

Arthur Heeler-Frood has been found safe and well in Honiton today [Tuesday 15 November].

The 15-year-old was located by officers at Honiton train station after being alerted by a member of the public shortly after 4.30pm.

Arthur is now being reunited with his family.

He went missing after leaving his family home in Axminster on the morning of Tuesday 6 September and failed to turn up at school.

Officers would like to thank the member of the public who called in and also thank everyone who has assisted with the appeal to find Arthur over the last two months...

A Brothers Grimm spell has been cast over Killerton this Christmas.

For the first time, the National Trust property will be transformed into classic fairy tales with a festive twist from Saturday 19 November.

Each year, to celebrate the start of Christmas at Killerton, the staff step out of their day jobs and ‘get into character’ for the festive theme with a specially commissioned photoshoot. A new countryside park for the local community has been given the go-ahead today on land between Exeter Road and Eastdon Woods north of Shutterton Lane in Dawlish.

Proposed by Councillor Price and seconded by Councillor Mayne, Teignbridge Planning Committee unanimously approved the change of use planning application for the new countryside park which will provide a natural recreational area for local people to enjoy now and into the future.

Young writers surpass expectations in Tickety-Boo competition

Ottery St Mary Primary School pupils proved they were talented wordsmiths in a writing competition organised by local coffee shop, Tickety-Boo.

The seasonally-themed competition attracted an impressive 63 entries from schoolchildren of all ages, from Foundation right up to Year 6.

Tickety-Boo’s head chef, Dave Goldthorpe, visited the school to give out certificates and prizes to the children who took part.
