The turf is off on the Big Bellever Dig
The Dartmoor site has been prepared and on Monday archaeologists will begin a new phase of excavation at a Bronze Age hut circle site in Bellever plantation.
A quick look during the last season of excavation in 2011 revealed a possible stake hole along with internal paving and potential occupational deposits in a small hut circle. Hopes are high that they will recover some interesting and well preserved features that will increase our understanding of this remarkable site and Dartmoor’s Bronze Age in general.
They will also be investigating outside a larger hut circle to look for an external drip gully and/or ditch, earlier phases of construction, paved areas and evidence for terracing.
Follow the dig on Twitter and attend Bellever Day on Saturday 19 July at the National Park Visitor Centre Postbridge to see what's been found.
Guided walks to the hut circle excavation site will take place at 11.30am and 2pm on 19 July.
The excavation and Bellever Day have been organised by Dartmoor National Park Authority as part of the national Festival of Archaeology.
