In celebration of the Tour de France visiting our shores, cycling clubs across the region are hosting over 15 Go-Ride Tour events, to cement the legacy and give young people the chance to get involved with cycle sport.

All youngsters across the area are welcome to turn up and take part in the entry-level cycle sport events, which will take place throughout this month.

The tour comes to the Exeter Aces' Exeter Cycle Speedway Track, Cofton Road, Marsh Barton on 27 July and 30 July and Tiverton BMX Club on 24 July.

The Go-Ride Tour has been co-ordinated by British Cycling, to give local children the opportunity to emulate their cycling heroes and get involved with cycle sport.

All Go-Ride Tour events will take place in a fun and safe, traffic-free environment and will be led by club volunteers and coaches trained by British Cycling. At the events, the young riders will have the chance to take part in a number of riding sequences, with the best efforts winning t-shirts and medals in the colours of the Tour de France jerseys – white, green, yellow and polka dot.

British Cycling’s director of coaching, education and development, John Mills, said: “We have a fantastic summer of cycling ahead of us and we wanted to provide an opportunity for young riders to emulate their cycling heroes and experience the thrill of racing.

“We look forward to welcoming lots of new riders to the Go-Ride Tour, which will undoubtedly be a highlight of the year for the Go-Ride programme. These racing events are developing the next generation of bike racers, so you never know, we might also find another Laura Trott or Chris Froome!”

Over 60% of the Great Britain Cycling Team started out at Go-Ride Clubs.

Jason Kenny, a world champion who progressed from a Go-Ride Club, said: “Go-Ride Clubs provide such a great opportunity for kids to get into cycling. It’s unbelievable to hear about all the young people inspired to get involved after watching events on the world stage and clubs are doing brilliantly at harnessing that inspiration.”

Go-Ride Clubs across the country will be hosting over 230 events throughout July as part of the Go-Ride Tour.  Events are planned for Exeter on 27 July and 30 July. For more details visit www.britishcycling.org.uk/go-ridetour

The Go-Ride programme is British Cycling’s development programme for young people, providing a fun and safe way to experience the world of cycle sport. There are 300 Go-Ride clubs across the country in communities and schools, where young people are able to sample the various cycle sport disciplines and start enjoying one of the fastest growing sports in the UK.
