Shoppers are in with a chance of winning a £100 trolley dash as Newton Abbot markets get ready to support Love Your Local Market 2015.

Teignbridge District Council alongside Newton Abbot market traders are supporting the high profile Love Your Local Market campaign led by the National Association of British Market Authorities which runs from Wednesday 13 May to Wednesday 27 May.

To celebrate the occasion and boost economic activity, Newton Abbot markets is putting on a trolley dash prize draw to attract new customers and persuade people into the town.

Customers visiting the town can pick up an entry form from different locations around the Indoor Market and Market Square. The winner will be given £100 to spend within the markets and is free to fill a trolley with anything they want!

Teignbridge District Council is responsible for running the Newton Abbot's range of indoor and outdoor markets. There is a food hall which sells local produce and an outdoor market in Market Square every Wednesday and Saturday. There is also:

• A produce market is in Courtenay Street every Tuesday from 9am - 3pm
• Trash & Treasure Sales in Market Square every Friday 8am - 4pm

• Car Boot Sales on various Sundays either in the Cattle Market car park, or on rainy days the multi-storey Car Park is available from 6am - 1pm

Teignbridge District Council’s Newton Abbot Market Manager Mike Walsh said:

“Love Your Local Market is a celebration of market culture and is a great opportunity for people to come and see the diverse offers from our traders. Newton Abbot has a proud tradition of markets that have long been a force for good for the local economy.

“I’m delighted we are backing the campaign again. We’d encourage regular visitors and new ones to come and see us, spend time in the markets - browsing or buying - and enter the prize draw. Good luck!”

The Love Your Local Market campaign started in 2012 in a bid to support and promote high streets and town centres. Since then more than 11,000 events have been staged across the country. In 2014 Love Your Local Market saw over 900 markets come together nationally to deliver the largest markets event for a generation.

Newton Abbot Town Development Manager Sally Henley said:

“Retail markets are a really important feature of Newton Abbot’s shopping offer and it’s great that there is a national campaign devoted to highlighting the part they play in town centres.”

Graham Wilson OBE, chief executive of the National Association of British Market Authorities said:

“Love Your Local Market is the biggest market event in a generation. It gives people the chance of a new career and demonstrates how important the market is to the local community. With the financial backing of the Government and our headline sponsor HMY Radford we intend to make Love Your Local Market 2015 once again the biggest and best markets campaign UK has ever seen.”
