Are you aged 13-18? Do you love to sing? Then here’s your chance!
Roots A Capella is run by Devon-based music charity, Wren Music, and meets in St. Sidwell’s Community Centre in central Exeter, just minutes away from the bus station.
The choir meets once a month on Sundays and is a great opportunity to improve your vocal skills, learn a huge range of songs from all over the world as well as take part in high calibre performances around the region.
In the last term, Roots A Capella have had an exiting run of performances, including at Exeter Cathedral and Torquay Princess Theatre as well as Chagstock Festival and Sidmouth Folk Week.
The rehearsals are led by Wren Music’s Sarah Owen and Jon Dyer. Sarah, who is a professional singer as well as a coach, said: “We are putting out an open call for anyone in this age group who really wants to sing. They might have a background in music, or they might not. Just come along if you love music.”
A parent, Nike, whose daughter Katerina is a choir member is impressed with what the choir has to offer: “It has given her amazing opportunities to meet with like-minded teenagers, perform to audiences great and small, participate in and lead workshops and generally have a hell of a fun time!”
The Sunday afternoon rehearsals run on Sundays from 12-5pm, starting on 20th September. Following this, the autumn dates are 18th October, 15th November and 13th December.
But the Roots A Capella isn’t just about singing; there are also opportunities to train up as young music leaders and run workshops, leading to nationally recognised Arts Awards qualifications.
