In a drive to promote all that is best about local sport in 2013, The Exeter Daily has joined forces with Active Devon and the Exeter Foundation to launch a county-wide sports awards event.

The competition is open to those involved in sport throughout Devon and, unlike similar awards, will be not-for-profit with any money raised going to charity.

Active Devon is celebrating its tenth anniversary of hosting the awards and has partnered with the Exeter Foundation, a charity closely linked to the Exeter Chiefs, to stage a star-studded ceremony.

Tony Rowe, chairman of the Exeter Foundation, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate all that is great about local sport and raise money for good causes at the same time.”

Active Devon Chief Executive Matt Evans said: “We are delighted to be working with The Exeter Foundation on this year’s awards.

“Joining forces with the charity was an obvious choice and we are confident that this association will take the event to the next level.”

The Devon Sports Awards will take place at Sandy Park, the home of the Exeter Chiefs, on Friday April 26 and are being supported by The Exeter Daily and Plymouth’s Sunday Independent newspaper.

All of the profits will go to the Exeter Foundation, which grants money to a number of Devon charities.

Nominations open 23rd December 2012 and will close on March 1 2013. For more details go to: http://www.activedevon.org/awards2013.
