Summer Nights arrive in Newton Abbot
Summer Nights are coming to Newton Abbot as street food will be served up with locally produced dishes and world cuisine and backed by live music from Drew Millin.
Taking place on selected Saturday’s through the summer, the cuisine fuelled nights are being produced by Born Hectic Events in partnership with Newton Abbot Town Council and Teignbridge District Council. The events are aiming to attract people of all ages, encouraging everyone to come and try a great selection of hot and cold food on sale, and stay around for entertainment through the evening.
Stalls will be setting up from mid-afternoon and trading will be from 5pm to 9pm on each evening. Free parking will also be available from 6pm across all Teignbridge District Council operated car parks.
Cllr Doug Hellier Laing, Teignbridge District Council’s executive for economy, skills and tourism, said:
“I fully support this exciting new event and it’s a great opportunity to showcase lots of fantastic local produce that we have on offer. Events like this help raise the profile of Newton Abbot and increase visitor numbers to the town.”
Sally Henley, Newton Abbot Town Council Town Development Manager, said: “Our Christmas street fayres which are held on the last two late night shopping Wednesdays in December have become extremely popular, with the street food element becoming a bigger feature each year. In response to public demand, I’m delighted that Newton Abbot Town Council, Teignbridge District Council and Born Hectic Events have joined forces to come up with ‘Summer Nights’.
“This is an opportunity for residents and visitors to pop to Courtenay Street for a spot of early evening supper and some of our familiar market traders will be joining in too! What nicer way to spend a summers evening than watching your food being prepared in front of you and to eat it whilst listening to local musician Drew Millin. Drew has become a regular Newton Abbot town centre performer and I’m delighted to welcome him back this July.”
Born Hectic Events said:
“We enjoy working with the Town Council on the Christmas Street Fayres each year and we are very pleased to join forces with Teignbridge District Council on this new summer venture. We hope that residents will support these local traders with as much enthusiasm as they do at Christmas and that they will enjoy these new events.”
