Geoff Beale, 49, will be taking on a very special challenge this October, as he plans to run 50 miles to celebrate his 50th birthday.

He will reach the pinnacle of his challenge when he completes his final mile at Exeter’s Great West Run on 19 October.

The event will also be particularly poignant for Geoff, as Exeter is home to his first ever running event, the Sport Aid 10k which took place in May 1986.

Geoff, a Key Account Manager for Thames Water, said: “I always wanted to celebrate turning 50 with a big challenge, and I came up with the idea of running 50 miles by taking part in the Great North, Great South, Great East & Exeter’s Great West run during September and October.

“Due to my work in the water industry, and my desire that everyone should benefit from clean drinking water, I have chosen WaterAid as my appointed charity, and all the money I raise will go direct to this wonderful cause. I realise how privileged we are in this country to have pure, drinking water on tap 24 hours a day, as well as excellent sanitation services.

“It will be a great achievement for me to say I have done all these “Great” runs in my 50th year, and something that I can look back on in years to come as a really proud moment in my life.”
