Retirement Village Residents Raise Over £10,000 for Children’s Hospice

Millbrook Retirement Village in Exeter, owned and operated by Inspired Villages, has raised more than £10,000 for Children’s Hospice South West following a year of community-led fundraising by residents and staff.

Throughout 2025, more than 200 residents and 30 members of staff came together to support the charity through a wide range of creative initiatives including a sponsored walk, charity dinner, Christmas craft fair, concerts, patio cleaning, raffles and knitted sock sales.

The fundraising total was formally presented earlier this month at the village’s regular coffee morning. Resident Faith Walter presented the cheque on behalf of the Millbrook community to Henrietta Olsson from Children’s Hospice South West, alongside Gita Rae, Chair of the Millbrook Residents’ Association. Both Faith and Gita thanked residents and staff for their generosity and dedication throughout the year.

Children’s Hospice South West was selected as Millbrook’s charity of the year following a resident vote. The charity provides vital palliative, respite, end-of-life and bereavement care for children with life-limiting and terminal illnesses, as well as essential support for their families across the South West.

Gavin Hogg, Village Manager at Millbrook, said: “Children’s Hospice South West is a charity that means a great deal to our community. The dedication shown by our residents and staff throughout the year has been truly inspiring, and we are incredibly proud to present this donation. The funds raised will help support the vital care the charity provides to children and families across the region.”

Each year, Millbrook residents nominate charities they would like to support, with the final selection decided by a resident vote, reflecting the village’s ongoing commitment to causes close to the community. Following last year’s support for Children’s Hospice South West, residents have now chosen St Petrock’s, an Exeter-based homelessness charity, as their next cause.

Millbrook Retirement Village offers over-55s the opportunity to enjoy an active and sociable retirement within a welcoming and secure community, close to the Devon coast and countryside. Village facilities include a relaxation pool, gym, cinema and restaurant.
