The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust have welcomed the first of several nurses who are joining the Trust following a recruitment exercise in the Philippines.

The nurses, who arrived on the 6th June, are two of over 200 Filipino nurses who have been offered positions at the Trust. The next group of nurses are expected to arrive at the beginning of July.

They were greeted by Bon Nemenzo, a registered nurse who has worked at the RD&E for over a decade. Bon has played a significant role in the recruitment process, including travelling to the Philippines in October 2017 to interview candidates and maintaining contact with those who have been offered positions.

Bon Nemenzo said: “Being a part of the RD&E recruitment process is a privilege. As my main role, I am a part of the profiling and the interview process; I then follow up with our hired nurses, assisting them in all of their requirement application needs. I feel privileged because I am able to help the Trust in filling up vacancies and increasing manpower for the hospital. I have been at this hospital for more than a decade and I feel like this is my way of giving back.”

David Thomas, Assistant Director of Nursing at the RD&E said: “It is fantastic to be able to welcome the first of many more Filipino nurses to the RD&E; they bring with them a wealth of experience to add to the teams here at the Trust.  We are fortunate enough to have a number of Filipino colleagues who have worked here for some years now and who are an integral part of the nursing teams that deliver care to our patients. To be able to augment this further is really exciting. We very much look forward to greeting all of the nurses as they make their move to Exeter.”
