Organic hair salon, Ragamuffins Hair is celebrating 20 years of providing naturally healthier hair services to the people of Devon, and what better way to celebrate than by giving back to their community.

In 1996 the hair salon opened its doors in the South Devon village of Kenton, offering hairdressing services unlike any other salon and using a relatively unheard of natural and organic based product line, Organic Colour Systems.

This was in a time before natural and organic beauty was anywhere near mainstream and perhaps could have been seen as a risk by some, but experienced hairdresser and salon owner, Nikki Farrant knew differently, she recalls, “I became acquainted with Herb UK, manufacturers and brand owners of Organic Colour Systems in 1989 after working as a trainer for a distribution company.

"At the time Herb UK were distributors for an imported colour brand and had not yet launched Organic Colour Systems. When the distributor I was working for closed, I was invited to continue working as a trainer for Herb UK and became heavily involved in the trialling, launch and international education of the Organic Colour Systems line. Having seen first-hand, the benefits of working with this naturally based product range, there was only one choice for me when I decided to establish my own salon and I’ve never looked back."

Ragamuffins work exclusively with the Organic Colour Systems range of products and have done since the beginning. In fact, they have only ever used the Organic Colour Systems range in the salon and are the longest standing salon worldwide to have done so, offering a unique colour service using products which are healthier for the client and the salon staff, as well as improve the condition of the hair. Last year Ragamuffins also invested significantly in refurbishing the salon to improve their clients’ experience.

“A visit to Ragamuffins isn’t just about the result, it’s about the whole experience which must be relaxing and rewarding for our clients every time they visit” say the salon staff.

To mark their 20th anniversary, Ragamuffins have decided to host a special event to raise money for Devon based Cancer Charity, Force.

Nikki comments “Over the years we have lost a number of clients and friends to cancer and there are a number of clients battling the disease at the current time.

"Force is a local charity with the belief that anyone diagnosed with cancer deserves the best possible support and treatment close to home.

"Their support also extends to family as well as patients. The charity is especially strong in the village of Kenton and after a twenty-year relationship with the village we felt that we could use our anniversary to raise money for Force and at the same time say thank you to the village for their support over the years."

Ragamuffins will be undertaking various fundraising activities on the lead up to the event which will be held at the Kenton Village Hall on Saturday 12th November. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Force Cancer Charity.
