Overnight closures to continue at Countess Wear roundabout

Overnight closures at Countess Wear roundabout in Exeter are set to continue for another couple of weeks.

The scheme, which includes drainage improvements, resurfacing and pavement repairs as well as the installation of a pedestrian crossing on Rydon Lane, was due to be completed this evening.

However, it is running behind as essential repairs are being carried out on collapsed drains discovered beneath the roundabout road surface, which are related to historical flooding problems experienced at the roundabout. Delays had also been incurred by the contractor during the installation of the crossing.

During the overnight work, all four arms of Countess Wear roundabout will be closed from 8pm-6am. Work is expected to be completed during the week commencing Monday 7 December.

Some lane closures will need to be left in place during the day over the next couple of weeks on Rydon Lane and the inner lane of the roundabout, to enable concrete to cure and gain strength before it can be driven over by traffic. These will be removed as soon as possible.

During the overnight closures, signed diversions will be in place. For more information visit the scheme webpages.
