The Newtown Community Association cafe on Sunday 3 August 2014 will be remembering the 118 men from Newtown who died in the First World War.

Visitors to the event, at the hut in Belmont Park from 2pm-5pm, will be able to come together, to step back 100 years and learn about the Newtown of old, to hear about the impact of the war on this small community and to celebrate the importance and value of being part of the community today.

The community has been involved in a community bunting project, making 118 individual flags to signify those that died.

A spokesperson for NCA said: "It is a chance for us to come together, in memory of war but in celebration of peace.

"We chose the colours of red and white for the bunting to represent these two themes. Likewise, we also chose the symbols of poppies and doves.

"Our aim has been for people from Newtown to take part in the project, to make a flag to unite with other flags in representing togetherness."

The official raising of the bunting will take place at the event.

Also at the event will be a small exhibition about the 118 men and details about Newtown 100 years ago.

The Newtown Community Choir will be performing, plus there will be other live music, as well as cakes, tea, coffee and cold drinks.
