New classrooms for Exminster Primary
A new £820,000 classroom building will be officially opened at Exminster Primary School later this week.
The four-classroom block replaces two outdated classrooms and adds two new classrooms to expand the school.
The project will be officially opened by the Chairman of Devon County Council, George Gribble, on Wednesday (June 25).
Devon’s Cabinet Member for Schools, James McInnes, said: “Exminster School has been expanding over a number of years to meet the need to provide school places for children living locally.
“This £820,000 project is the final phase of this expansion which will mean it can admit up to 60 children every year.
“Devon County Council has been working very hard with schools, heads and governors in the Exeter area to ensure there are sufficient places for the growing number of primary-age children.
“This is another successful project which will ensure 21st century accommodation in which our children can begin their educational journey.”
Local county councillor Alan Connett said: “I'm thrilled to see the new extension being opened and in use.
“Devon County Council has brought forward investment to enable the new classrooms to be built, providing modern and additional space for children.
“Exminster Primary School is under pressure because of the new house building in the village.
“Parents and school governors have been working with me over several years to secure this much-needed extension.”
