Learn about the birds in East Devon

East Devon District Council’s Countryside team is running a number of events over the summer which gives people the chance to learn more about some of the birds you can see locally.

The events include ‘Close encounters of the bird kind’ on Saturday 17 June at Seaton Wetlands. During the morning you will learn about the birds found at Seaton Wetlands and have the chance to see them up close as they are ringed for monitoring. Spaces can be booked online at wildeastdevon.co.uk

The Countryside rangers will be running two ‘Nightjar night walks’ at Trinity Hill Local Nature Reserve, where you can learn about this elusive bird and the rangers’ annual surveys and hopefully enjoy some sightings. The first of these events is fully booked but it will be repeated on Tuesday 25 July.

There are a number of ‘What’s that bird?’ sessions taking place throughout the summer. These drop in sessions are for bird watchers of all abilities and during the sessions there is a guide in the bird hide who will be able to point birds out and lend you binoculars.

Alongside birding events and annual summer favourites, there are a number of new events taking place including ‘Beginners photography’ and ‘Outdoor Introduction to Tai Chi’. These events are open to beginners and offer the chance to try out a new skill.
