How to battle your weak mobile signal
Don’t you hate it, when you have to run around the house to catch a better spot for your mobile signal reception? Or, even worse, get constantly frustrated, when you can’t even find that kind of spot?! We know the struggle only too well, and whatever the reasons for your troubles, don’t be gutted over failing connection. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel! You can purchase a mobile phone signal booster, relocate, use a more open plan for your construction, etc. We’ll go over these options, but first of all, let’s face the devil behind the problem and see how you got into this mess.
Reasons for weak signal
Ok, we’ve established that dropped calls and noise are a sad reality for you. But why does that happen and what exactly got your wire in a knot? There can be different reasons.
- First of all, you might be just too far away from the cell signal tower. If you are in a remote location, this is most likely the case. Your mobile phone uses radio frequencies to transmit signals. When you are far enough from the source, your reception, naturally, becomes weaker and the resulting phone conversation quality can hardly be called satisfactory.
- There might be physical obstructions in the path of the signal, barricading it from passing through. They can be natural, like a mountain, a big hill, or a forest between you and the tower. Or the building configuration itself might be the problem. Too much metal in the concrete, messed-up wiring, etc. Especially true for old buildings.
Whatever the reason, you have two options, either your outside signal is very weak, or the outside signal is fine, but it has trouble reaching inside your building. For each one of those cases, you can use different “weapons” to help your reception. So which are the most popular solutions?
Ways to have a 5 bar mobile reception
- The most obvious solution in our day and age is a mobile signal booster. It will work for both situations. For weak outside reception, and for uneven distribution inside your designated area. They are very diverse, however, do the research, before purchasing a signal booster. Here are some pointers on what to have in mind
- Your mobile operator, or carrier. This is important, as different operators use different frequency signals, and each booster device is designed to receive and enhance a certain wavelength. There are more universal devices as well, that will suit multiple carriers and signal types, taking care of your Call, 3G and 4G signals simultaneously. This requires research on your part, and consideration of a few details before making a purchase.
- The location of your building. As we discussed before, the choice also depends on the strength of your outside signal. If you are in a city, you will most likely have a strong outside signal and maybe a weaker one inside you home, or even some of the rooms. If you are in a more remote location, your outside signal might be very weak or even fluctuating. For each of those situations, there’s a special booster to serve your needs. Again, research before purchase and you’ll never have to endure a weak signal again!
- The designated area for the signal boost. These devices are very different not only in power and strength but in coverage as well. So choose the one that will fork for your apartment, house, boat, restaurant, or office building. They range from 100-150 sqm to more than a 1000 sqm.
- Having a mobile booster can be a great way out, but there are other “home remedies” for bettering your signal. First of all, remove all the obstructions that are under your control. As a surprising solution with lots of side benefits, clean out the clutter in your house and remove unnecessary furniture. Fewer obstructions for the signal, less frustration for you!
- If you are constructing a building, make sure that you have these problems in mind and consider a more open plan, if you are in a remote area. Consider the materials that will allow you to have fewer problems in the future.
- Also, make a habit of locating the nearest cell tower. There are apps to do that for you. Sometimes even pointing the phone in the right direction, or moving to a room closer to its general location will do the trick. And also it’s a useful habit for extreme situations when you need to identify the direction of the nearest connection source straight away.
We hope this simple advice will help you avoid connection disruptions in the future and make your social life and work less stressful! Stay connected and good luck!
