GB baseball stars coming to Exeter

Women’s baseball players from across the region will descend on Exeter next month for a special tournament celebrating the growth of the sport and encouraging more women and girls to get involved.

The event, organised by Exeter Baseball Club, takes place at Winslade Park on Saturday, June 13 and will feature players from the South West Serpents alongside members of the current European champion Great Britain women’s baseball team.

Organisers say the day is designed to showcase women’s baseball, provide opportunities for newcomers to try the sport, and highlight the growing profile of female participation in the game.

The event will begin with coaching and taster sessions between 10am and midday, giving complete beginners the chance to learn the basics from experienced coaches. Tournament matches will then get underway from noon.

Visitors can also expect appearances from special guests connected to local women’s sport, while refreshments will be available throughout the day, including a traditional American-style hot dog cart.

Exeter Baseball Club hopes the event will introduce more people to a sport that continues to grow in popularity across the UK and internationally.

Club representatives said the tournament is about more than just competition, creating an opportunity for players, supporters and families to come together and celebrate women’s sport in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The South West Serpents are one of the region’s leading women’s baseball teams, while the inclusion of Team GB players offers a rare opportunity for local sports fans to watch some of Europe’s best female baseball talent in action.

The tournament is being sponsored by PKF Francis Clark and forms part of wider efforts to raise awareness of women’s baseball and encourage participation at grassroots level.

Organisers are inviting anyone with an interest in sport to attend, whether they are experienced players, curious newcomers or families looking for a different day out.

The event takes place at Winslade Park, Exeter, on Saturday, June 13. Coaching and trial sessions run from 10am until midday, with tournament matches starting at 12 noon.
