A man running from John O’Groats to Lands End with a fridge on his back will reach Exeter this Friday.

Tony “The Fridge” Phoenix-Morrison, will stop on the approach to Exeter at the end of his 34th consecutive day of running with a 42.5kg Smeg fridge on his back.

The endurance attempt is for the Sir Bobby Robson foundation – a cancer research charity in memory of the former England football manager.

Tony, a 49-year-old grandfather, has remained very fit having completed the Great North Run over 30 times. This success however proved to be a bit of a burden when seeking sponsorship, requiring Tony to become more creative in seeking his funding.

The 1,053 mile endurance run is the latest of Tony’s fridge runs, having previously run 30 half marathons in 30 days whilst weighed down with the appliance.

Tony’s latest fridge run nearly faced disaster after displacing his pelvis 3 inches, requiring constant medical attention for the rest of the challenge.

Writing about the experience Tony said: “I never will forget the fact that I am able to play with adversity; I can take the fridge off, people fighting cancer cannot escape their burden quite so easily.”
