Police are inviting cyclists to take advantage of a free bike security marking event near Chudleigh next weekend.

Officers and PCSOs will be on hand at the main car park in Haldon Forest on Sunday 10 August to mark cycles, and offer crime prevention and road safety advice to riders.

The event has been organised by Chudleigh neighbourhood policing team in conjunction Forest Cycle Hire Centre, based at Haldon.

The aim is to promote awareness around bike security and to help prevent cycle thefts.

Devon and Cornwall Police and the cycle centre are jointly providing 100 bike marking kits to be given away on the day.

Each kit provides a permanent etched marking, a tamper resistant warning label, plus a lifetime registration and secure account on an online bike register database.

Bike marking takes less than five minutes and can act as a deterrent for thieves as well as providing the police with an additional tool in identifying stolen cycles.

The event starts at 11am.
