Flower Power comes to Princesshay today

Between 11am and 2pm today (Thursday 10 April) we will be bringing Toby Buckland and lots of flowers to Princesshay Square, courtesy of Land Securities and Toby Buckland’s Garden Festival.

We would love as many people as can to join us there in a flowery celebration of spring... bye bye dreary winter, hello spring! Say it with flowers!

There will be seed giveaways for children, free flowering plants, learn how to make perfect compost, brilliant gardening advice and lots of prizes to win in our charity draw.

And we want as many people as possible to come wearing flowers – a flowery tie, dress, flowers in the hair, a flowery bag – and the first fifty will each receive a free flowering plant from Toby.

Children might like to dress up as bees and butterflies and there will be prizes for best costumes.  Let’s fill the Square with flowers and see how many people we can attract at 1pm - go for a record flowery picture.

Garden Party atmosphere with marquee and bunting:

  • Toby Buckland will be there to talk gardening, offering insight and inspiration with his garden clinic
  • Emily Stallworthy from Devon Wildlife Trust is distributing wild flower seeds, talking about Exeter Wild City, the scheme they have been running with Exeter City council – distributing bee and butterfly friendly wild flower seeds to city schools.
  • Andrew Littlejohns, Land Securities, Operations Manager, of Princesshay Shopping Centre, will tell us about his sky garden complete with beehives above our heads and what he is going to do with the honey they produce.
  • Peter Hunt, beekeeper, will also be there in full outfit with his travelling beehive.
  • Expect a flowery vision as the Green Man and Mother Nature visit in their 12 foot splendour to add some performance art to the garden party atmosphere.
  • East will flounce the latest fashion of striking floral prints with an opportunity to enter a free prize draw.
  • Seed give away! Gorgeous vegetable seeds from cardoons and carrots to artichoke and agretti, from Franchi Seeds of Italy
  • A selection of specialist nurseries will be there too.

Flower Power comes to Princesshay with a gardening event to promote Toby Buckland’s Garden Festival at Powderham Castle 2/3 May and to raise money for two great charities: Dream-A-Way and Perrenial.

There will be a prize draw with money raised going to Dream-A-Way, a locally based charity which helps people with physical and learning difficulties and Perennial, a garden charity which supports those in need in the horticultural world.

Prizes will include tickets to Toby Buckland’s Garden Festival, family tickets to Powderham Castle, plants and other interesting prizes.
