By 4.15pm fire crews had brought the fire under control.
A spokesman said: "Approximately 56 large bales of hay were involved in fire. The bales have been removed from the adjacent barn to a safe area in an adjoining field.
"Fire crews are still at work with a compressed air foam systems jet allowing the bales to burn under supervision.
"Crews will continue to revisit this incident during this evening to check the progress of the controlled burning of the hay bales."
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
