An Exeter nurse will take on the London Marathon this year, in aid of disability charity Leonard Cheshire.

Robert Wells, 45, will hit the streets of the capital on Sunday 22nd April for one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

Robert has been a nurse for 25 years. He was inspired to take on the marathon after one of his patients, Geraldine Bethune, spoke fondly of Leonard Cheshire and wanted a way to support the charity’s work.

He explained: “Geraldine thinks highly of Leonard Cheshire and the important work they do. She wanted to make a generous donation and knew of my repeated ballot entry failures for the London Marathon. This, coupled with my strong desire to run the marathon for a truly deserving cause, seemed the ideal opportunity to raise funds for Leonard Cheshire and support disabled people to live the lives they choose.”

Leonard Cheshire runs care services for adults with disabilities throughout the UK and offers specific projects to widen education and employment opportunities for disabled people nationally and overseas.

Robert is an experienced marathon runner and has already taken on Helsinki, Paris and Amsterdam, but this will be the first time he’s tackled London.
