Positive parenting programme Triple P have commented on last night's leadership hustings held in Exeter.

The parenting company work across the UK to support parents develop strategies to manage their child's behaviour and emotions.

Matt Buttery, CEO of Triple P UK, said:

'The largely absent discussion of family policy in Exeter's hustings was concerning. Isolating lockdowns and dealing with the uncertainty of the pandemic has had a big impact on children’s social, emotional and academic development, and we’ve seen mental health problems in young people double.

Devon itself has received a surge of referrals for children who are in need of help, so much more needs to be done in this part of the country to support them.

Over the next four weeks I hope we will hear more about how this will be achieved, particularly when it comes to manifesto commitments like Family Hubs and Supporting Families - all of which will improve the emotional wellbeing of the next generation.'
