One of Exeter’s most important advice charities is appealing for volunteers.

Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau, which is based in King William Street, is recruiting new gateway assessors.

The main role of the assessors is to meet clients on their first visit to the bureau and decide how best to help them.

John Pill, Exeter CAB training officer, said: ‘We are looking for volunteers who enjoy working with people and can spare up to six to eight hours a week.

He added: "These volunteers conduct the first interview with the client. They identify the client's issues and decide the next best step for them, whether internal or external referral. They also collect information which might be used to lobby local and government policy to improve the lives of our clients."

The CAB will be holding an informal open session where potential volunteers will have an opportunity to find out more about the charity’s work, chat with some current volunteers, find out about the training programme and meet the supervisors.
