A Church of England priest in Torquay will run the London Marathon this weekend in aid of Exeter Cathedral.

Mark Searle, who is leads the congregation at St Mary Magdalene Church in the centre of Torquay will attempt the London race on 24th April just one week after setting a new personal best in the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 17th April.

As a teenager Mark used to sit outside Exeter Cathedral pondering faith and talking to others about it. He said:

“In those years the magnificence of the Cathedral provided a reminder of the unshakable glory of God and inspired my faith. Now my parents are part of the Cathedral community so it is a real privilege to have the opportunity to run in support of Exeter’s best-loved landmark”

Mark’s mother and brother will be running the London Marathon alongside him. His father, Hospiscare founder Canon Dr John Searle, joined the Cathedral as a Residentiary Canon in 2014.
