Just because the summer is over, doesn’t mean that the fun has to end... To make sure the adventures keep on rolling, East Devon District Council’s Countryside team, together with 13 partner organisations, has been busy putting together a packed programme of 100 exciting events that will be taking place across the whole of East Devon from October 2016 through to March 2017.

There’s something for everyone with a wide range of fun filled outdoor activities, suitable for people of all ages. Choose from traditional favourites such as bird box making, wildlife gardening and wreathing making, or be daring and pay a visit to Poltimore House to take part in a spooky haunted Halloween trail.

  • The Halloween trail at Seaton Wetlands takes place daily from Saturday 22 October through to Sunday 30 October 2016, from 10am to 4pm. Pick up a map and follow the trail of spooky clues around the Wetlands. Complete the trail to win a treat (but no tricks).
  • Bird box making in Exmouth takes place on Thursday 16 February 2017 from 1pm to 3pm. Meet at Phear Park and make homes for the wildlife in your garden. Book online to make a bird box, costing £7.50 per box. Concessions are available to East Devon District Council tenants – just contact the Countryside team to book a place.
  • Wildlife gardening at Cranbrook takes place on Saturday 25 February 2017 from 10am to 12pm. Help the Countryside Park Ranger complete the bug hotel and learn how you can encourage wildlife to live  in your garden.

East Devon District Council’s portfolio holder for the environment, Councillor Iain Chubb said: "The new Countryside Autumn/Winter events guide is full of fantastic activities out and about in the East Devon countryside.

"Whether you enjoy walking, arts and crafts or fancy your hand at practical conservation tasks there is something for all ages and abilities. The guide, which has been produced by the Countryside team, is a great resource for families and tourists and will hopefully encourage people to explore their surroundings and enjoy the benefits of time spent outdoors."
