Clarice Sampson celebrated her 100th birthday on Monday 23 June with a party for her family and friends at the Fisherman’s Cot, Bickleigh.

Clarice was born in Brixham, and was brought up on a farm. In the 1930s she was a trainee nurse at Brixham Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

She was married to her late husband Laurence for over 60 years.  The couple lived at North Tawton for 25 years, then moved to Cheldon, near Chumleigh and then on to Crediton.

Clarice is now a resident at Kenwyn Residential Home in Crediton.  She has a son, Michael, a daughter, Julie, one grandson and one great grandson.

She does the daily crossword, every morning, loves scrabble and reading.

Clarice says she thinks long life is in her genes, adding that she enjoyed sports and cycling, and was in the school teams for both tennis and hockey.

A truly remarkable lady.
