Exeter College student recognised for dedication and skills development

EX2 Group is proud to celebrate the achievement of one of its rising stars, Sammy Jenkins, who was named ACE Apprentice last term by Exeter College.

Currently working toward a Level 3 Installation & Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship, Sammy has been recognised for embodying Exeter College’s ACE values (Ambition, Collaboration, and Energy).

Sammy works four days a week with the expert engineering team at EX2 Group, supporting a variety of high-profile projects across the South West. He was nominated by Shaun Davies, Curriculum Area Manager for Exeter College who oversees the Electrical apprenticeships, and was chosen as the first Construction ACE Apprentice.

Shaun: "Sammy has improved so much over this year from his first year, engaging in the classroom and on Teams and other platforms. He is a great example of someone who has matured since being with Exeter College and is on the path to be a very good electrician. This recognition speaks volumes about his hard work, dedication, and the positive impact he is making. It is fantastic to see the results of the EX2 Group’s support and guidance in helping Sammy thrive.”

The award highlights top performance in both practical work and academic achievement. Sammy has impressed both college tutors and colleagues with a strong work ethic, technical ability, and a genuine passion for electrical engineering.

“It’s fantastic to get this certificate,” said Sammy. “The team at EX2 has been amazing—I've learned lots from being on site and applying what I study in college to real-world projects. This has definitely confirmed that I’ve chosen the right profession.”

Since joining EX2 Group, Sammy has contributed to key projects, including installations at educational facilities, offices, and community buildings - including with the team at Broadmeadow Sports Centre which is undergoing a £3.7m refurbishment led by Nevada Construction. His hands-on work and keen eye for detail have made an impact with the team.

Josh Staves, EX2 Group’s site supervisor at Broadmeadow Sports Centre added:

“It's an absolute pleasure to have Sammy working alongside me. He's progressing at a remarkable pace and is eager to keep developing his skills, knowledge, and problem-solving ability - all while maintaining a great attitude. He's already showing signs of becoming a great electrician with a successful career ahead of him.”

EX2 Group currently has seven apprentices from Exeter College undertaking 4-year courses. They take pride in fostering the next generation of skilled engineers through hands-on training and mentorship. Their partnership with Exeter College helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application - ensuring apprentices are industry-ready from day one.
