British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for the public’s help as investigations continue into the theft of a mobile phone from a train at Exeter St Davids rail station.

Investigating officer, PC Stewart Warne, said: “The victim, an 18-year-old man from Exeter, was travelling on the 1405hrs service from Topsham on Thursday (3 July).

“He realised he had left his white, iPhone 5 on the seat on the train after he had got off the service.

“Train staff checked the service but there was no trace of the phone and it has not yet been handed into any railway lost property office, therefore, we are treating the phone as stolen.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I am today releasing CCTV images of a man I would like to identify and speak to as I believe he will have information which can assist this investigation.

“This man travelled on the same train as the victim and departed the service at Exeter St Davids station.”

Anyone with information is asked contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting incident reference GSUB/B3 of 05/08/14. Alternatively call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
