Active Communities: ‘Live and Move’ in Exeter and Cranbrook
Live and Move is the new community identity behind the Exeter and Cranbrook Sport England Local Delivery Pilot.
At its heart, Live and Move is a social movement for happier, healthier and more active communities. It’s made up of a group of people and organisations who want to find out about the life circumstances that prevent moving more, whatever that means to the individual.
The group are looking at the ways they can access resources or influence decision makers to make more active lifestyles accessible - and fun!
Live and Move is made up of a group of partners, organisations and community groups, led by a team working with Exeter City Council. Live and Move’s website and social media tells the stories of people across Exeter and Cranbrook, sharing the real world challenges and inspirational ideas of people in our own city, town, schools, workplaces and streets.
It doesn’t stop there, though. The group are already active behind the scenes in supporting communities to access the information, skills and resources they need to design their own futures.
Cllr Duncan Wood, Lead Councillor for the Live and Move programme of work, said: “Our vision is to find ways to support all of us, no matter our age or ability, to move a bit more day to day.
“Over time these habits, which we choose for ourselves, can positively impact our personal health and wellbeing but also our families, local communities and environment. Our game plan is to learn about all the different ways that people choose to be more active, and then see what we can do to support these choices, activities and lifestyles.
“This could mean putting in resources in the form of funding for community projects, or telling the stories of people who don’t usually have a platform for their voice, or sometimes it means working with local authorities and partners to make changes even at policy level to make a lasting difference for a more active society.
“We are committed to listening to and working with people to find out how to make the changes that make a real difference - and how to make these changes last.
The Live and Move mission has close ties to the city visions of reducing inequality, increasing wellbeing and achieving carbon neutral status by 2030. There’s going to be a lot going on in different areas and sectors as Live and Move work with people and organisations across Exeter and Cranbrook.”
Cllr Matt Osborn of Cranbrook Town Council said, “Cranbrook Town Council are really focused on connecting people to address our wellbeing as individuals and as a place. We’re a new town and we are making huge strides together. Being a part of the Live and Move Sport England Local Delivery Pilot compliments our Healthy New Town work and the Move More Cranbrook vision of finding community solutions to increase physical activity for all round wellbeing.”
