Castle Drogo Youth Panel to hold Spring Fling
The Castle Drogo Youth Panel has been busy planning their next event, a free community open evening.
On Friday 16 May, from 6pm until 9pm, the gates will be flung open to the local community to come up and enjoy spending time at this quirky castle outside of normal hours.
The Youth Panel’s aim is for this to be a chilled out and relaxed evening where visitors can stroll in the garden, relax on the lawns, and watch the sun go down – a perfect picnic opportunity.
There will be plenty of games to play and local musicians will be performing on-site too. For those missing the Great British Bake Off, there will also be a ‘pudding club’ competition where everyone is welcome to enter a pudding of their choice – be it cake, biscuits, or anything else – which will then be judged before all entries are sold off to raise money for the building project. The winning entry will get a free family cream tea in Castle Drogo’s café.
The current building project, partly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Interreg, a European grant, means that some rooms have been plunged into darkness and, therefore, provide a great backdrop for an out-of-hours event. The staff and volunteers hope that lots of local families and their friends will come along for the evening and support the youth panel with this event.
Museums at Night is Culture24's annual festival of after-hours events which celebrate arts, culture and heritage. This year's events are happening across the country from Thursday 15 May to Saturday 17 May 2014. To find out more take a look at: www.museumsatnight.org.uk
