Silverton to host Coronation knees up and celebrates new playground and skate park

A right old royal knees up is set to take place in Silverton as the village celebrates Her Majesty’s Coronation and new community facilities.

This Sunday, 2 June,  will see a host of events and activities taking place on the mid-Devon village’s Big Recreation Ground and all are welcome to join in.

The day will also mark Silverton Parish Council officially opening the village’s new playground and skate park. A newly designed Jubilee garden will also be dedicated in the park to celebrate the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

Activities in the afternoon include a giant bring-your-own picnic, brass band, a Pimms and beer bar and a tea tent.

Parish Council chairman Philip Madams urged the community to get involved and said all are welcome to attend.

“We have had some excellent support from businesses and our village to get the playground and skate park open,” he said.

“This day promises to be great fun and another excellent community day in the village. Please come along.”

The new playground and skate park was made possible by months of hard work from the parish council and the community. Funding was also helped by a major community grant worth thousands of pounds from charity Viridor Credits Environmental Company.

Local companies have also been involved in landscaping the Jubilee Garden.

So, come along to Silverton in Devon’s beautiful Exe Valley for what is sure to be an exciting and fun-packed day.
