Exeter charity celebrates a successful year of holiday activiites

Exeter Charity, The Hollow Lane Club is celebrating the success of its holiday clubs this year including its well-loved Summer Club which ran for 12 days across July and August, helping 63 children from 57 different families.  

The local charity supports children and young people with complex disabilities, providing year-round clubs and activities helping children socialise with the support of the club’s playworkers.

The Club organised a variety of activities for the children to enjoy in Summer – including group trips off site to locations such as Paignton Zoo and Exeter Trampoline Academy. They had visits from Streedance artists at Urban Flow and Art & Craft with local company, Artmakers to name a few. A total of 46 staff worked across the Summer Club – helping to facilitate the activities.

The Club’s General Manager, Mary Roche, said: “It has been amazing seeing the success of the Club this Summer, seeing so many of the children have fun in activities from trips to the zoo, to arts & crafts at our base in Exeter. We know it is such a vital organisation for families with children with complex disabilities, giving the children the opportunity to have fun and socialise with their peers, whilst giving their families respite from caring responsibilities in the Summer holidays. We are so proud to continue being able to provide the club and other resources for these families.”

With the new school year starting in September, the Summer Club has ended and the After School Clubs run by Hollow Lane have re-started. The After School Clubs cater for children and young people from the Ellen Tinkham School, Ellen Tinkham College and Bidwell Brook School. The Hollow Lane Club will also be running Saturday Clubs once again this year, they re-started in October in Exeter, with two trial dates for the club to re-start in their second location in Dartington.
