A group of Exeter Independent Retailers have got together to create a 'Christmas Shopping Crawl' based on the model put forward by the Independent Retailers Month UK, to encourage shoppers to do their Christmas shopping in Independent shops and experience the unique and exciting products they offer as well as fabulous customer service.

Shoppers will be given a leaflet showing them the local retailers who are taking part, along with a map so they can easily find them. The shoppers can get a tick, or stamp from the shop when they visit and on completion will be put into a prize draw where they can win some lovely goodies supplied by the shops.

The scheme will highlight the wealth of quality, unique and wonderful products and services independents in the city can offer.

The campaign will also be highlighting that for every £1 you spend in local shops, 50p-70p circulates back into the local economy, compared with as little as 5p when you spend with the big chains.

There is generally a strong support from consumers for local shops but in a place like Exeter, many outlets are not on the main shopping centres, so this map will help consumers to locate the independents that Exeter offers - as there are many more than you might think.

Many independent retailers are already taking part, but there is still room for more to join in. So if you are an independent providing a product or service to consumers in Exeter, please get in touch at exeterindiexmas@gmail.com
