Trill Farm, the 300 acre organic farm and education centre in Axminster has just added Basic Home DIY classes to its educational programme of sustainable living workshops.

Held on Friday 24th April and again on Friday 24th May 2015, this enjoyable hands on 1-day workshop will cover many of the common aspects of basic DIY, and is perfect for beginners who are not very confident about tackling small but important tasks in the home.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Hang curtains, blinds and simple shelves on any wall.
  • Drill into wood, brick or hollow walls with confidence.
  • Hang pictures and heavier objects like mirrors, cupboards and flat screen TVs.
  • Remove old wall fixings and fill residual holes.

The workshop will be led by DIY author, Alison Winfield-Chislett from The Good Life Centre in London, and Trill Farm carpentry tutor, Ruth Thomson. They will also offer advice on what tools to have in a basic toolkit and how to tell if a task is appropriate for DIY or GSI (get someone in).

The use of all tools and materials will be included in the £70 course fee, as well as a seasonal organic lunch, fresh from the farm. Participants will take away expertise that will last a lifetime and the confidence to address all those nagging little jobs around the home.

Director of Education at the Trill Trust, Jolyon Chesworth, who organises the education programme at Trill says: “Basic Home DIY is a natural fit for our programme of teaching sustainable living skills. We are teaching people to fix not throw away; repair not replace and just as importantly, personal skills to gain confidence in their practical skills.”
