Saving money in the home is essential. As costs seem to rise as the years go on, we are all trying to find ways to keep money in our pockets. The best way to save money in the home is through energy efficiency. Here are a few energy saving tips in the home.

Solar Panels

By installing solar panels on your home, you will be using less energy for heat, and that will have a positive effect on your bank account. Harnessing the power of solar energy will not only make your home more energy efficient, but home heating and cooling costs will drop. That’s a win/win.

Solar panels will simply use the energy from the sun, and you will use less oil and gas to cool and heat your home. Although there is a cost for installation, the long term benefits are worth it.

Use Energy Efficient Appliances

Start using energy efficient appliances. Using a dishwasher is a great way to do that. Dishwashers use less water and less energy than running the water in the sink. Running water is wasteful, also your hot water heater has to continue to work heating the water for you to do the dishes.

With a dishwasher, the hot water heater only has to heat water once, and the dishwasher will use that water over and over until the cycle is complete. This will save a lot of energy in your home. You can do the same with your washer and dryer. Most companies make washers and dryers that use the least amount of energy possible without sacrificing the quality of the machine’s performance.

Install An Energy Efficient Boiler

Boilers take water and heat it and turn it into steam in order to heat your home. That can take up a lot of energy, but energy efficient boilers do not waste any of the energy or heat created from the boiling process.

Energy efficient boilers will take any heat that is escaping from the boiler and suck it back into the boiler in order to turn it back into heat so that none of the air is wasted. This is a great energy saving tip for your home and a new boiler cost less than you may think.

Install a TRV

TRV or thermostatic radiator valve measures the temperature in your room and communicates that temperature straight to your boiler. Depending on the temperature of your room, the TRV will only send the right amount of water to your boiler for heating. There will never be any water wasted or any excess of heat created that will go to waste.

Couple a TRV with a smart thermometer and you will be able to use geofencing along with WiFi to control your heating and cooling schedule using only the energy you need to use.

Use LED Lights

LED lights last about 25 times longer than regular light bulbs. Also, LED light bulbs use about 75% less energy than regular light bulbs making this a great energy saving tip. Replace all of your bulbs.
