Our homes are extensions of ourselves and this has never been more true than in the 21st century when we all strive to have the most perfect home possible. Social media is awash with images of celebrities in their lavish cribs, and every time we see them it sparks a little bit of envy deep inside. There is an incredible array of lifestyle blogs and tv programs promising you that they can turn your house into your dream home on a shoestring budget, so it seems that if you are not taken in by this obsession that there is something wrong with you.

It is also important to differentiate between purchasing useless knick-knacks and worthwhile items, so here we are going to take a look at 7 must-have additions for your home.

An American-Style Fridge

When looking for worthwhile additions to the home it is worth starting where we spend most of our time - the kitchen. With our ever-increasing family sizes and our picky eating habits, it has become difficult to store enough fresh food, so the best way to combat this is to invest in an American style fridge freezer. The beauty of these machines is that they have a depth of space unrivaled by other styles and they also have a sizable freezer compartment that will make those trips to the garage or utility room a thing of the past. You will also have instant access to chilled freshwater and ice thanks to the gadget on the front. Although they may be expensive they will last for years to come and will make your kitchen life much more bearable.

A Dartboard

Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic we are all spending more time in our homes under lockdown, and this has meant that we have an awful lot more free time on our hands. Modern ways of distracting ourselves include television, Netflix, and maybe the occasional book, but why not try a new sport that can also help with educating your children? That sport is darts. The beauty of darts is that it allows you to brush up on your maths skills, as it actually requires seriously quick backward mental arithmetic, which is a perfect way of helping your children achieve top marks in their maths tests. So learn an enjoyable new sport and your multiplication skills will improve at the same time. That’s win-win entertainment for me!

A Ceiling Fan

As we enter the long hot summer months it can at times become stiflingly hot inside, and given we are spending much more time indoors due to the quarantine period it is important to find a solution to this problem. We have already looked at how to keep our food cool, so why not add the finishing touch to your house by keeping yourself cool with a ceiling fan? Long gone are the days when ceiling fans were noisy affairs as today’s models are all ultra-quiet and come in sleek designs that easily fit into the style of your home. They are inexpensive and will improve the quality of your life by keeping the air circulating, allowing you to get on with your day with minimal fuss.

A Hot Tub

We all see social media posts by celebrities of them lounging in their hot tubs gazing into the distance, but did you know that thanks to advances in technology it is now perfectly possible to have your own hot tub installed at an affordable price? These can be installed into your decking or as free-standing units in your garden and the installers will do all that is necessary to rig it up to your water system. Imagine spending those long summer evenings in a hot tub, sipping a gin and tonic; it would be heavenly! So, bite the bullet and invest in a hot tub and you too can enjoy the celebrity lifestyle.

A Pool Table

No bachelor pad would be complete without the ubiquitous pool table. In fact, these days, it is not only men playing pool, women and children alike have taken to the game in a way they never did before. The pool is such a great sport because it requires thought and is also incredibly sociable as many people can play at the same time and it is perfect to play whilst enjoying a beer or two. Pool table prices have come down in recent years, so if you have a spare room that is crying out to be used, then consider installing a pool table.

A Cinema System

Everybody loves a good movie, from the youngest children watching Disney, to our grandparents enjoying cowboy westerns; it is a pastime that will never go out of fashion. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic cinemas have been closed and this has meant that film buffs have had nowhere to go to indulge their hobby. One way of changing this is to have a cinema system installed in your living room. Granted they are not the cheapest pieces of kit, but if you have a passion for films and enjoy hosting movie nights for friends and family, then they are a great investment that will provide entertainment for the whole household for many years to come.

A Roll-Top Bath

At the end of a hard day at the office, or a day looking after those unruly but delightful children, you deserve a bit of relaxation time, so why not consider changing the dull old bath in the corner of your bathroom for a sleek new roll topped number that has ample space to stretch and lounge into? In fact, they are so large that they are easily big enough for two so are the perfect setting for a romantic evening. Prices have tumbled in recent years, so head to the showroom, call your plumber and look forward to many relaxing evenings.

As we have discovered there are many additions to your home that can improve your quality of life without breaking your budget. Look for items such as a larger fridge, or a ceiling fan that are practical but don’t forget entertaining items such as a pool table or hot tub. After the long period of lockdown you deserve a little treat, so go ahead and enhance your home, and you will walk around with a smile on your face for weeks to come.
