Skin Angels visit Kiddi Caru Day Nursery, Exeter

Parents, children and staff at Exeter-based day nursery Kiddi Caru were recently provided with expert advice on year-round sun protection, courtesy of Skin Angels, a team of campaigning beauty therapists from Exeter.

Skin Angels, from Exeter's Purity Boutique Spa, are on a mission to raise awareness of the importance of protecting your skin even during the autumn and winter months.

The team demonstrated skills and techniques to distract little ones whilst having sun cream applied and in turn making it a fun process. They also showed the children how to apply sun cream using dolls as models.

Skin Angels was set up earlier this year by Purity Boutique Spa owner Mariam Badavi, with the aim of sharing knowledge with people everywhere, enabling them to make informed choices about skin care and skin protection.

Mariam comments: “I am really passionate about educating people, both young and old, about skin protection. Skin Angels are on a mission to show that applying sun cream to little ones needn’t be a dreaded task and we demonstrate ways of making it a fun process, whilst explaining the importance of regular application.”

Jo Cook, Nursery Manager, said: “We were delighted when the Skin Angels came to see us at the nursery. I was lucky enough to be chosen to have sunscreen applied. It is made from natural products and was absolutely lovely. Mariam suggested that sunscreen should be worn daily, which we are all making sure we do now.”

“The whole experience was very professional, informative and relaxing. My three year old children were then treated to demonstrations of how to apply sunscreen onto dolls to help encourage their understanding of the importance of skin protection. Mariam then went on to introduce us to the concept of “Skin Angels’ which is quite simply a fantastic idea.”

Skin Angels will be out and about over the coming months visiting nurseries, schools and colleges across Devon to raise awareness of the dangers of the sun and provide advice about problematic skin conditions.

The UK charity, Teenage Cancer Trust, is backing Mariam in her efforts.
