eat:Festivals will be hosting a food and drink festival in Cranbrook on Sunday 13 September 2026.

The festival will be happening in the heart of the town, on and surrounding the Tillhouse Road. eat:Festivals are a small social enterprise who have been delivering one day food and drink festivals in towns across the south-west for over 13 years. The Rusty Pig in Ottery St Mary is hosting a festive Christmas Jumper fundraising feast for pre-Christmas revellers.

Diners joining the fun on Friday 19th December will be obliged to wear a jumper festooned with a seasonal motif or decoration, although chef Robin Rea believes some will go the extra mile.

“I’m sure we’ll be seeing some extra special efforts from creative Rusty Pig diners,” he said.

Robin will choose his favourite jumper on the night, and the wearer will enjoy their meal for free.

Bumper honey crop from SW bees

Beekeepers across the South West of England have reported an average yield of 30lbs of honey per colony this year according to the findings of the British Beekeepers Association¹s annual Honey Survey, released today (26 November, 2014).

The survey revealed a substantial 36 per cent increase on the 22lbs per colony reported by South West of England beekeepers in 2013, and is a far cry from the 7lbs per colony nadir of 2012.

The reported yield across the country is 32lbs per colony, a 28 per cent increase on the 25lbs per colony reported in 2013.

Following the World Cheese Awards on Friday - leading traditional clothbound Cheddar producer, Quickes, is celebrating winning three gold medals for their Mature, Extra Mature and Vintage Cheddars.

The latest achievements followed an intensive day’s judging that took place at Olympia London alongside 2014’s Good Food Show. There were more than 2,700 entries from all around the globe including cheese from Brazil and New Zealand. A panel of almost 250 cheese experts took part in the process of grading the cheeses and awarding medals accordingly.

Allergy awareness workshop

There's still time for people in the catering business to book a place on a workshop looking at new legislation involving allergens in food.

New regulations become law from December for the way restaurants, pubs, cafes inform customers about the allergens contained in meals or snacks.

Exeter City Council is running a Food information for Consumers/Allergy Awareness workshop on Tuesday (25 November) from 10am to 12 noon. The cost of the course is £10 per delegate.

Ottery St Mary’s Tina Chauhan-Challis has had a great start with her new venture, Samosa Lady Deli and Dining after locals gave the thumbs up to her cooking.

Tina, who grew up in York and moved to the town in 2011, took on an empty shop on the corner of Broad Street in September. Since then, customers have been flocking to the store to stock up on ingredients and enjoy chai tea and Tina’s feted samosas.

Father and son farming partnership Mike and Tim Leach of Glebelands Farm, Upton Pyne celebrates 75 years of rearing top-quality turkeys and geese specifically for the Christmas market with the launch of a new website called ‘TastyBird’.

Free-range bronze turkeys and geese roam freely through the fields and are fed with natural cereals from the farm with no growth promoters or antibiotics.
