From the classic savoury steak and kidney to the delicious sweet apple and blackberry, families have been enjoying pies for years and last week was no exception as the nation celebrated British Pie Week.

Pies have become a symbol of British comfort food at its best and can be traced in history as far back as 2500BC.

Double win for Ottery's Rusty Pig

The Rusty Pig in Ottery St Mary has scooped two top gongs in the Live Love Eat Awards.

Not only did the popular restaurant pick up the Platinum Award for the best restaurant in Devon at the event held at the Deer Park Hotel in Honiton, it also collected the coveted top spot as 2014 Regional Restaurant Champion.

“The team was absolutely thrilled to win the award for Devon, but to pick up the regional award was the icing on the cake,” said owner and head chef, Robin Rea, who founded the restaurant and butchers shop in Yonder Street in 2011.

Twelve local groups meet in Exeter tonight for a locally sourced dinner using food from producers using renewable energy.

Regen SW, a centre for sustainable energy expertise based in Exeter, is tonight hosting a community energy feast to celebrate the volunteers and groups working tirelessly to establish community energy projects in the region. These projects are being set up to benefit local communities and generate income to make them more vibrant and sustainable places to live.

Over five days five strangers, from all walks of life, take turns to host the perfect dinner party for each other.
