Topsham’s favourite quirky restaurant The Pig & Pallet will be closing at the end of the year.

Owner, Salami Steve explained that the sad news is due to the current economic climate making it impossible to keep delivering the high standard of food at a price still affordable to customers.

“Whilst we have looked at ways of reducing our costs, we simply weren’t prepared to lower the quality of our offering and work with anything other than the very best ingredients.

“We’re proud to have only ever used high welfare meat produce and to always champion local suppliers and their amazing products.”

Steve and his team opened The Pig & Pallet in 2016 and it quickly became a favourite restaurant with locals and visitors to the region, especially those looking for ethically produced, tasty meat dishes.

He said: “For the past six years we've been through some great times and some tough times - but always a lot of fun times; but sadly, we are going to shut The Pig and Pallet at the end of the Christmas holidays.

“Keep an eye out for a great Christmas offering and come and enjoy a final fling before we close the doors for the last time.”

But it’s not the end for the road for Steve and his team. “We won’t be disappearing anytime soon! We are still going to make and sell our award winning charcuterie and Pig Shed BBQ produce from our Topsham site and we look forward to serving customers old and new.

For those who can’t visit in person we are also selling our full range online via our Good Game and Pig & Pallet websites as well as via our apps – hint, download these to benefit from an introductory discount – a great way to buy some of your Christmas gifts and support local!”

Salami Steve and the Good Game charcuterie team are also busy passing on their superb skills by teaching future charcuterie producers via River Cottage and the School of Artisan Food. They are also looking to launch a new course locally so keep an eye open for this new and interesting course.

And there’s yet more to come, as Steve and his team will be taking the Pig & Pallet on the road. “So you’ll still be able to enjoy our fantastic food at festivals and pop ups around Devon, especially in the Topsham, Exmouth and Exeter areas.

“We’ve got something really exciting planned for the restaurant space which will allow us to keep on supporting great producers from the South West region. We think everyone is going to love it so watch this space and we’ll explain more over the coming weeks. Huge thanks to everyone who’s supported us along the way, from me, the Pig & Pallet and Good Game teams.”
